Bookshop printing books on demand!
An all-digital bookshop has opened in Paris. Customers can choose the book they want printed from around three million titles!
Then a robot prints, binds and trims the book in just a few minutes. It does this through the use of two PDF – one for the cover and another for the text. The cover can then be printed in colour but the inside of the book is black and white only. While the books are library-quality books, the cover is a little bit sticky because of the gloss used. The books are the same price as books in traditional bookshops!
This store is the “first all-digital bookshop in Europe that sells books on demand only.” said the general manager of the store. There has always been tension between paperback books since the revolution of the digital age, but this store proves that the two can come together in harmony. It is rather efficient and a low-carbon way of making books!
