Australia Post now delivering 6 days a week

Australia Post is set to respond to consumer demand and increase its delivery schedule to 6 days a week.

Commencing at Christmas time this year, deliveries will be made on Saturday as well as postal outlets opening on the weekend nationwide. This new improvement together with Australia Post’s Pack and Send and new parcel lockers are another example of Australia Post moving from letter delivery to powering online delivery.

Managing Director and CEO Ahmed Fahour commented on the decline in letter volumes to Fairfax Radio on Monday.

“Without change and reform to letter services, we do not have the ability to absorb this loss and could, for the first time since corporatisation, become a cost to the government and ultimately the taxpayer.”

Luckily for Australia Post, privatisation was taken off the table this week after speculation that it would be amongst the government agencies being sold as part of a huge cost cutting scheme.

In addition to these changes Fahour also announced the two speed delivery timetable already introduced to business letter services will also be available to general consumers.
