Australia Post commemorates Anzacs with stamp series

In commemoration of Anzac day, Australia Post has today released the first stamp that will be part of a 5 year series. The stamps will tell the story of Australia’s involvement of WWI and will commemorate the 100 year anniversary.

They were design in conjunction with the Australian War Memorial to include key events, battles and individuals relevant to each year of the centenary.
Dr Brendan Nelson, Director, Australian War Memorial, says that the centenary stamp issue complements the War Memorial’s planned centenary activity.”Through our centenary commemorations we hope to encourage Australians, young and old, to reflect upon and learn more about Australia’s military history. These stamps are a brilliant visual representation of Australia’s involvement in World War I, but more importantly, each tells a significant story that we can learn from and be proud of”, said Dr Nelson.Australia Post played a vital role, connecting troops with their loved ones via mail. Letters that are now a lost art in today’s digital world.

The WWI centenary stamps and associated products will be available for purchase from Australia Post outlets and online.
